What’s Happening with LAcon V
We’re so excited to begin telling you about all the activities we are doing to prepare for our upcoming Worldcon in Anaheim in 2026. Just because it is over a year away doesn’t mean we’re sitting on our hands. LAcon V wants to hear from you, both for suggestions for events and entertainments you would like to see, as well as to volunteer to help us put on as great a convention as possible.
This venture cannot be completed without your help, so we are very interested in keeping all channels of communication open. One of the ways we are doing that now is described in this next section.
Join the LAcon V Community
LAcon V has established a rich online presence to take us through the next year to our August 2026 convention, and we’d love for you to participate. Besides the updates that are posted on our website’s blog page, our social media campaign is where you’ll find all the latest news and info about the convention, as soon as it happens!
Our new Facebook Community Group is now live. This is an actively-moderated discussion group set up for chat about all things related to LAcon V. It will be very active through next year’s event: everything from finding roommates for the convention to brainstorming ideas about fun things to do while in town. It only takes a few moments to apply for entry-just answer two quick questions so we know you’re a real person, not a bot. We look forward to you joining us!
But that’s not all. We have an active presence on multiple social media systems, so make sure you follow us in at least one of these locations and ensure you’re hearing about all our news announcements and deadlines. You can find them on these sites.

See us in Seattle
The Seattle Worldcon is coming up this August 13th through the 17th, and we have lots of activities in store for all those who are attending. You’ll be able to find us in several areas, both physically and intellectually.
The Seattle Worldcon will provide you a registration packet with, among other goodies, a Worldcon souvenir book. Inside that book, our ads will help you create-your-own-adventure while searching for me, Fuzzy the LAcon V mascot. Please follow these ads to find me, noting as you go some of the various events we have planned for our Worldcon. Once you’ve found me, you’ve earned a reward. You can pick up that reward at our fan tables.
The LAcon V fan tables are located in the Exhibit Hall on the second floor of Flex Hall.
We have been told we are on the left corner of aisle Flex B (tables 36, 37 and 38) as shown on the map. When you visit our tables, you’ll be directed to the Found Fuzzy area and you can tell them where you found me in the souvenir book. If you are correct, one of my friends there will hand you a reward. I hope you display it proudly and tell anyone who asks how they can find me, but please don’t just give my location to them. Have them search for me in the souvenir book while they embark on their adventure, too!
LAcon V Parties in Seattle
But the souvenir book is not the only place you can find me in Seattle: I will be at the parties we are throwing for attendees. We will be hosting parties starting on Wednesday night and on several other nights at the convention; you can find our party info listed on the party boards, in the daily news zine, and on flyers throughout the convention, including at our fan tables. When you drop by to see us there, remember to pick up a flyer with the days, location, and times.
LAcon V will continue the adventures at our parties that were begun during our bid process. The theme of our parties here is MILLIWAYS, the restaurant at the end of the universe, as found in Douglas Adams’ The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. In keeping with our theme, you will be able to sample the “Dish of the Day” and the “Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster”. For those more adventurous, you can try our edible non-sentient alien from a selected planet. These are limited as we can’t always keep them from mingling with our guests. However, for those of you less inclined to try exotic cuisines, we’ll have assorted goodies from Earth as well.
This won’t be the only fun you’ll have at our parties. I’ll be somewhere in the suite, watching the goings on to ensure you will have a great time. If you spot me, wave and check in with one of my party ambassadors. These nice folks will provide you with a badge charm, which you can attach to your con badge and keep for future convention badges. (These are limited to one to a party goer for the weekend and are also in limited supply, so make sure you come early!) Wearing the charm helps us spot you during this and future conventions as one of our supporters(and hopefully one of our registered attendees for LAcon V). So it can remind you to say hello to us at all the cons we attend. You may even be able to collect more badge charms of my family and friends.
That’s not the only prize that will be given away at the parties; in keeping with our theme, we will ask you to submit what you think is the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything. [Yes, we know the answer to the question is 42. Pretend this is Jeopardy and give us the question.] Towards the end of the party, we will select at least one question and the person who submitted it will choose an item from our premium table which range from items you need to put together to things that help you on a typical Earth adventure. We’ll announce when the drawing will be held at the party (and it will also be displayed above the collection bucket). You must be present to win, so keep that in mind. See if your question made the cut and peruse the premium table to see what goodies are up for grabs.
In addition to the food and drink, we would like to introduce you to one of Guests of Honor, Geri Sullivan. Geri will be with us at our parties and can regale you with stories about fandom and conventions all over the world. As a Hugo Award-winning fanzine editor, she can inform you about all the joys and headaches of putting out a fanzine and working with both professional and amateur writers. Geri has also worked with a number of fan funds to bring deserving fans to science fiction conventions far from their home cities. A recipient of the Trans-Atlantic Fan Fund (TAFF) in 2019, she travelled to Dublin, Ireland to attend Dublin 2019, an Irish Worldcon. You can ask her about her experiences over there and her efforts to bring Mikolaj Kowalewski to Seattle Worldcon.
All this sounds like a lot of work, and I can’t bring all my family and friends to help, so if you have some time in Seattle and would like to help us make our party outstanding, please let us know. Drop by our fan table and give them your name, how we can contact you, and when you would be available. We would love to have your help and input now and in the future.
Help Make LAcon V More Fun by Volunteering
Speaking of the future, running a Worldcon takes a lot of hard work, but it’s worth it when we can ensure our attendees will have a wonderful time. But you would be surprised how helping to run the con can be as much fun as just seeing it. Volunteering some of your time enables you to see some of the inner workings of the event, and your knowledge and skills aid us in making everything run smoothly. Watching your work make a difference to others is rewarding in itself, but we also like to give our staff and volunteers some perks to thank them for their efforts. Don’t worry if you aren’t sure if you have a specific area of expertise. You can check out the listing of jobs that are available; the openings that are listed on our website.
Or, you can just apply directly and list any work, either in fandom or the mundane world, that you think may be pertinent. Everyone working this convention started out being a volunteer at another, and finding an area that both challenged and delighted them. We would like this experience to happen to you, and we would appreciate any time you can give. Join us, and remember… adventure awaits!
