Time Is Running Out: Hotel Reservations

We’re down to the wire… the hotel reservations deadline for LAcon V is August 4, 2026.

If you want to be close to all of the action we suggest you act now and book your room. Wonderful options are still available at the Anaheim Marriott with our reduced rate.

Transportation & Shuttle Services

There is a new shuttle service from John Wayne (Santa Ana) Airport: HMR Shuttle has hourly shuttles to both the Hilton Anaheim and the Anaheim Marriott.   Pick up and drop off locations at both hotels are their respective valet area.  You can make your reservations on the HMR Shuttle Website.  Adult rates are $20 one way and $35 round trip.

Don’t forget… our website has some handy information about getting to LAcon V by air, and a full page about Parking, Shuttles and Rideshare with all the information you need to get to this year’s Worldcon!

Registration & Badge Pickup at LAcon V

Convention Registration for LAcon V will be located at the Anaheim Hilton Hotel, in Pacific Ballroom B.  Located on the Ballroom Level or Second Floor.  This is where attendees will check-in, pick up their credentials and other information, and gain full access to the event.

Convention Registration and badge pick up will open for everyone beginning Wednesday, August 26.  Registration will be open during the following hours (all times are Pacific Daylight Time/PDT):

Wednesday (Early Arrivals): 10:00am to 8:00pm

If you haven’t yet purchased your membership to attend the convention, you can do so both before the convention as well as on-site… and in fact, at the door, you can still register online when you arrive at the facility, then pick up your credentials after your transaction is completed. Please make sure you bring photo ID with you to pick up your badge.

2028 Site Selection Continues

All members of LAcon V (other than single-day admission) are members of the World Science Fiction Society, and eligible to vote to determine the site for the 86th Worldcon, to take place in 2028. A $50 USD voting fee is required to cast a vote. Even if you don’t have a preference in the outcome, voting in Site Selection guarantees you a WSFS membership in the 86th Worldcon.

Brisbane in 2028, a bid for the 2028 Worldcon in Australia, is running unopposed. (Nuremberg, Germany regretfully withdrew their bid just before the opening of online site selection voting.) Voting is primarily done electronically, but there is also a paper option. Voting will remain open through 5:45pm PDT on August 29.

For more information on how to cast your ballot, see our Site Selection Instructions page.

Hugo Award Voting & Hugo Voter Packet Reminders

Don’t forget to cast your vote for the 2026 Hugo Awards! Voting will close on August 8 at noon PDT.  Access to the Hugo Voter Packet will be removed at the same time.

More information on the Hugo Awards and Finalists are available on our website. You can access the voting platform through our Member Portal. If you have any questions or problems, email hugo-help@lacon.org.

The Hugo Awards at LAcon V

And speaking of those awards… the prestigious Hugo Awards® are the leading award for excellence in the field of science fiction and fantasy. First presented in 1953, they have been awarded every year since 1955 (except during WWII) by the members of the World Science Fiction Convention (Worldcon).

The Hugo Award ceremony is the culminating event of the World Science Fiction Convention. It is where and when the members of the Worldcon recognize and honor the best works in the science fiction & fantasy field from the previous year. They stand at the heart of the convention and of the Worldcon community as a whole.

This year’s Hugo Awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, August 30 at 8:00pm PDT, in the Arena of the Anaheim Convention Center. It will be hosted by LAcon V’s toastmaster, Ursula Vernon (aka T. Kingfisher), herself a multiple Hugo Award winner.

Also part of the ceremony is the presentation of the Lodestar Award for Best Children’s Book and the Astounding Award for Best New Author. In addition to the usual categories, LAcon V will issue a Special Hugo Award for Best Poem.

We welcome everyone to come and enjoy the show!

The Program Is Almost Here!

The Program Division has been working around the clock and the globe to bring you an utterly amazing program! Last week we sent out draft schedules to our potential participants. Approximately 1,200 people applied to be on program and we had more than 1,700 items to schedule and check.

The program is the heart and soul of a Worldcon … hundreds of program participants, and more than a thousand items for you to attend. Here is where you will be entertained, taught, and joined by other attendees on this adventure we call LAcon V!

LAcon V will have Programming and Events in both the Anaheim Convention Center North (ACC) and the Anaheim Hilton (2nd Floor and 4th Floor).

The schedule for LAcon V’s Programming on site is as follows (all times are Pacific Daylight Time/PDT):

Thursday: 12:00pm to 11:30pm
Friday, Saturday & Sunday: 9:00am to 11:30pm
Monday: 9:00am to 2:30pm

There will likely be a few things on Thursday before noon for those who have already arrived and picked up their badge, and a morning stroll at 8:00am the other days.

Our Robust Virtual Program will enable programming almost around the clock… and around the planet!  It will include both live items as well as some “on demand” viewing of pre-recorded items. There will be table talks and workshops as well as readings, and games in person and online.

The full schedule will be released by early August 2026, but over the next few weeks you should keep an eye on the website and our social media as we begin announcing some of our Featured Participants and some Program Highlight Items!

This week we are announcing several amazing participants, just to get things started… we’re delighted to welcome Shay Kauwe, Charlaine Harris, Mary Robinette Kowal, Fonda Lee, John Scalzi, Charlie Jane Anders, Martha Wells, John Picacio, Robin Hobb, Leigh Bardugo, Robert Jackson Bennett, and joining us virtually are Ada Palmer, Wole Talabi, Kieron Gillen.  And there are many more program participants yet to be announced!

We cannot wait for you to see what we have created. We know you will be as excited about it as we are!

Religious Observances: Volunteers Needed

Worldcons often facilitate public religious observances, and LAcon V plans to do so as well. If you are a member of an organized faith and wish to coordinate one of these layperson-led observances during the convention, please contact program@lacon.org to let us know as soon as possible.

Drop Off Childcare with Kiddiecorp

We are delighted that KiddieCorp will be hosting the drop off childcare during the LAcon V. With forty years of experience, KiddieCorp has been a trusted provider of high-quality childcare for conventions and conferences, and offers a variety of activities based on the children’s ages and interests.  Kiddiecorp has had a long-term relationship with US-based Worldcons, and most recently provided care at Chicon 8 in 2022 and Seattle Worldcon in 2025. Activities include exciting themes, arts & crafts, group games, music & movement, board games, story time, dramatic play, etc. We tailor activities to suit each age group appropriately.

LAcon V’s Drop-Off Childcare is available on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, from 3:00pm to 11:00pm each day.  Children of ages six months up to 12 years are welcome.  The cost for this service is $12.00 per hour, per child.  Drop-Off Childcare is located in the Hilton Anaheim Hotel, right across from the convention center.

We encourage early registration as availability is limited and operates on a first-come, first-served basis. To secure advance reservations, both the registration form and full payment must be received by KiddieCorp. On-site registration will be limited to available space.

NEED MORE INFORMATION?  KiddieCorp is available to answer any questions. Feel free to contact KiddieCorp by phone at (858) 455-1718 or by e-mail at info@kiddiecorp.com.
