The Program is LIVE…
and We’re Looking for Last Minute Volunteers

LAcon V’s program is truly epic: over 1600 items in-person and virtual. The complete schedule of programming and events is furnished to our attendees in the ConClar system, which is now live as the Program Guide (or guide.lacon.org). You can also access it through our Member Portal (or portal.lacon.org). Watch for more information via email, plus more information about Discord program items that require sign-ups, like workshops and table talks. We also have amazing teen programming and children’s programming. Participants are listed on the website, alongside program highlights.

And when we said a robust virtual program we meant it. Over 560+ items are virtual or virtually available. However that means we really really need help for the virtual team. This is a great way to help from afar and get to see programming. Any time zone and any level of capacity is great! We’re looking for AV Clippers (remote) and Zoom Hosts (remote). We are also looking for Voice of Virtual volunteers (in person in LA) – this means watching items in person and representing the questions etc. from the virtual platform to the panel or presenter.  If you’re interested, reach out to virtual@lacon.org

We are also looking for some help with moving things in and setting things up on August 25-27. If you’re free Tuesday afternoon, Wednesday, or Thursday morning and want to volunteer, please send an email to volunteer@lacon.org and let them know you want to help with MIMO (move in/move out).  MIMO volunteers will get a 50% bonus for hours worked and be entered into the opportunity drawing for special events on Thursday or Friday, depending on when you drop off your hours.

LAcon V Exhibits: A Preview

We’re delighted to announce an exciting array of exhibits ranging from traditional Worldcon staples such as the Worldcon History Organization with the trademark WSFS banner and past Hugo awards on display, to classic Battlebots and modern art by members of the Art Directors Guild (local 800) with a Science Fiction theme.  These include a display of older and classic costumes from master costumers that have not been exhibited in decades.

The Art Show has a wide variety of art on display and for sale by silent auction as well as special displays by LAcon Guest of Honor Tim Kirk of art never before seen, done for but never used on Harlan Ellison’s last unpublished collection in the “Dangerous Visions” series. There is a retrospective on a giant of the field, Frank Kelly Freas, featuring portraits of the Original Star Trek bridge crew that have to be seen to be believed. The man was simply the best portraitist of his time. Finally, fan favorite Vince Villafranca of Hugo base fame is putting on a retrospective of past and new bronzes including art from private collections never before publicly shown. Check out the full list on our website.

On top of all that, over a hundred dealers are in our Dealers Room, selling everything from slime to rare books are waiting to sell you their wares. Check out the full list of dealers in advance on that page.

Various fannish organizations from FANAC Fan History Project to the 501st Legion have fan tables where you can meet and interact with their members, maybe even join their organizations.  There will also be a Fanzine Lounge where you can read and scan in fanzines, and three ‘recharge areas’ for tired feet and aching backs, where you can sit down and ‘speed friend’ with people you have never met before.

Some other great stuff to see:

  • A natural history exhibit in a travelling wagon will transport you to California’s prehistoric past.
  • Every Guest of Honor has an exhibit where you can learn more about them.
  • There are representatives of several local museums that have SF and F collections.
  • There are examples of the prop makers’ art from backdrop painters to actual robots.
  • There are science displays from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and the IEEE as well as the Southern California Droid Builders.
  • Don’t forget to see the LAcon V MakerSpace upstairs, and visit the Build-A-Blinky tables to build your own limited edition convention logo/badge.

Check out the Freebies Book Lounge and our Freebies tables with literally thousands of free items from the latest books to gems from many generous donor’s personal collections. You won’t know what you will find unless you visit and do some digging.

And last but not least, there is the biggest interactive exhibit a Worldcon has ever had: in over 1,200 square feet, Limitless Telepresence will give you a chance to drive prototypes of their remote controlled moon rovers in simulated lunar and other environments that, with luck, will be available in 2028 to remotely control from the Earth to the Moon and beyond. Mind the 2.56 second round trip delay (Light speed is sooooo limiting!) and watch out for falling Space-X rocket parts.

We have done our best to make sure there is something for everyone and surprises, games, and fun around every corner.

More Special Programs & Events at LAcon V

There are so many additional things to see and do at LAcon V this year.  Some of the more recent highlights of programming and events on our website include the following:

  • The Southern California and San Diego Blood Bank are joining us Friday for a Blood Drive at the Bloodmobile outside the Hilton Anaheim.
  • We’re celebrating 60 Years of Star Trek at the convention
  • Sponsored by the Dublin in 2029 Worldcon bid, we’re having a Thursday Night Céilí – an evening of music, dancing, laughter, and community – featuring Stepwise, an acclaimed Celtic folk trio
  • Here’s also a preview of XPRIZE at LAcon V, presenting three times during this year’s convention.

Finding Your Personal Space at LAcon V

We want everyone to feel welcome, comfortable, and cared for. Our Safer Spaces/Affinity Spaces are here to give you a place to rest, connect, and be yourself during the convention. You’re welcome to bring in outside food (no buffets or dinners please!), and these spaces are located near food options for your convenience.

You can also drop by our Con Suite (also known as the Hospitality Suite), Room 5505, on the fifth floor of the Hilton Anaheim, open from 8:00am to 1:00am. Come have a snack or just wind down after a busy day.

Dining Options

In addition to various food options in the Hilton, there will be four food trucks outside on the Anaheim Convention Center North (ACCN) plaza and two coffee carts in the ACCN. And if you’re feeling a bit more adventurous, check out various foodie options further afield in our Dining Options guide on our website.

Travel and Local Stores & Services Guides

We recently updated the LAcon V Travel Guide, a complete guide to getting to, and around, Anaheim.  There are handy links to airport shuttles, car rental services, taxis, local bus information and much more for your assistance.

A newer feature of the website is our Local Stores & Services Guide.  Want to find local party supplies, supermarkets, convenience stores, craft supplies, or even hospitals and veterinarians?  This guide is for you.

LAcon V Discord Server Now Online

We’re excited to announce that convention members (both in person and virtual) can join the online discussion on our new Discord server.  In order to participate, you need to visit the LAcon V Member Portal, and make sure you’re logged in; once you do, you should see the Chat Online tile (in the Program section).  Click on that tile to join the Discord server (there are specific instructions on how to do so that are linked from the Chat Online tile.)

A Piece of LAcon V at Home

Want an LAcon V t-shirt, tote bag, notebook, water bottle, or something else worth buying? Check out the official e-store or visit our LAcon V Merchandise booth on site.

End-of-Convention Fire Sale

LAcon V will be selling off items we purchased for the convention and no longer need. These are the odds and ends which were easier to buy than rent, and they’ll all need a good home. Check it out Monday August 31, 2:30-5:30 or until everything is sold out. Open to the public so bring your area friends too! Cash or credit card only, in the Santa Monica room, Hilton.

BYOWB (Bring Your Own Water Bottle)

Have your own water bottle? Don’t forget to bring it! There are water refilling stations on each level of the Anaheim Convention Center.

Reminder: The Member Portal is Your LAcon V Home

Reminder, our Member Portal is your one-stop destination, whether you’re attending in person or joining us virtually, to manage your LAcon V experience. By the time the convention rolls around, items such as the full schedule of events, maps, streaming events and more will be available. You can also reach the Member Portal through our website (there’s an easily accessible button on the front page.)

Everyone who’s a member of LAcon V has the ability to use the Member Portal.  When you joined, you should have received an email from virtual-support@lacon.org with the subject “LAcon V Virtual Convention Access” or “Nominate for the 2026 Hugo Awards”; these include information on how to activate your account. If you can’t find one of these emails, then contact virtual-support@lacon.org with as much information about your membership as possible and we will be able to look up and find your username for you.
