The purpose of these instructions is to help Worldcon members participate in voting in the Site Selection process for the 86th Worldcon. Even if you don’t have a preference in the outcome, just voting in Site Selection guarantees you a WSFS membership in the 86th Worldcon, regardless of which bid wins.
Voting Eligibility
All members of LACon V, other than single-day members, are members of the World Science Fiction Society, and therefore, eligible to vote for the determination of the site of the 86th Worldcon in 2028. A $50 USD voting fee is required to cast a vote.
Voting Methods
The easiest way to vote is online. You may also vote by mail or in person at the LACon V convention on Thursday through Saturday, August 27th through 29th, at 5:45 PM PDT.
Online Voting Instructions
You must be a member of LAcon V to vote in Site Selection.
If you need to purchase your membership, click here. Current members of LACon V can go to the Member Portal by clicking here.
After you have logged in, scroll down to the Participate section and click on the “Site Selection Vote” option.
On the next screen, click on the “Buy a site selection token” option.
On the next screen, please provide your postal mailing address as required by WSFS rules. Also, please indicate if you wish to have your name published on the website of the winning bid, and whether you would like to receive paper publications.
When you have completed your purchase, you can click on the “Vote in site selection” button.
This will redirect you to the Election Buddy site to complete your vote.
Follow the on screen instructions for completing your ballot.

Mail-In Voting Instructions
The PDF version of the ballot on this website (click here to download) can be printed, filled out, and mailed to the postal address on the ballot. The voting fee of USD$50 can be paid by check or money order included with the ballot made out to “86th Worldcon.”
In-Person Voting Instructions
Stop by the Site Selection booth in the Exhibit Hall. You may either hand-carry or complete your ballot at the table set aside for this purpose. Then, you need to have your LACon V membership checked and verified that you have not voted previously. You then pay your Voting Fee by cash, check, or credit/debit card. Lastly, vote your ballot and deposit it in the box.
Postal Address Requirement
Section 4.4.1 of the WSFS Constitution specifies that any ballots without a name, signature, or postal address will only be counted as “No Preference.”
