Fuzzy Pink SlippersThe Newsletter of LAcon V

Issue Six: Saturday August 29, 2026: PM Edition

The Fuzzy Pink Papers is the daily newsletter of LAcon V, the 84th World Science Fiction Convention.  Edited by Sam Lubell and published throughout the convention.  More issues of the Papers can be found here throughout the weekend.  Please email submissions to newsletter@lacon.org or drop off written content in the box outside the Hilton, Mezzanine 12 room (third floor).

More Than Just Dealers

The Concourse on the lowest level of the Convention Center has a lot more than just dealers. You can vote for site selection (which closes shortly after the release of this newsletter). You can drive a model of the lunar rover with your phone. You can read old and new fanzines in the fanzine lounge and experience how fans stayed in touch before Internet social media. Visit the art show to see the paintings that turned into book covers and see the art of our Guest of Honor Colleen Doran. Gaze with awe at the exhibits on our Guests of Honor and the history of fandom. Learn from the science exhibits and holographic robot. Unravel the mysteries of the Tesseract and Hyper-Tesseract light sculptures. Relive your tv and movie memories with the props and vehicle exhibits. And, just for being there, you have earned a treat so buy yourself a book, shirt, toy, jewelry or other merchandise. Fuzzy says you deserve it. The exhibit hall is open Friday-Sunday 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM; Monday 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Photo by Andrew Williams

Masquerade: Every Face a Different Shade

Come join us for the Worldcon Masquerade, which starts tonight at 8:00pm in the Convention Center Arena.  Get there early for the best seats. Marvel at the costumes and admire the artistry that it took to create them. Fuzzy promises that Mr. Lavender will not take you on a secret spy mission (obscure ‘80s reference) and no disguised vampire Kindred will eat you up (less obscure 90’s reference). Food, Glorious Food

If you have explored the food truck and hotel food court scene and are still hungry, there are some other food options if you are willing to wander a bit. Nearby Harbor Boulevard has chains like IHOP and Denny’s. There’s also Californian restaurants like Mimi’s Cafe (1400) and the Chubby Dumpling (1800) and Brewberry Cafe (1770) . And, for breakfast or lunch there’s Blossom Café & Market at 1020 W. Katella Street. If you eat at one of these, please tell us about it. Email newsletter@lacon.org

Notes from our attendees recommend the Chubby Dumpling, saying it is good to share, and the Oasis Food Hall (631 W Katella Ave, on the first floor of the Desert Palms hotel)

LAconners Count (Up to 20 When Shoeless)

As of Saturday afternoon, August 29, 2:00pm Pacific time, LAcon V has the following numbers to report:

  • 4,218 warm bodies on site who have picked up badges
  • 8,110 total memberships (including all of our virtual attendees)

Convention Registration will keep us posted with additional updates in future issues.

Fans Are Slans: Talk Books

Talk books with John Hertz. Meet in the Hilton Lobby at 1 PM Sunday to discuss Slan by A.E van Vogt.

LAcon V Passports: Collect ‘Em All

During the LA in 2026 bid process that resulted in LAcon winning this year’s Worldcon, we issued a passport booklet to presupporters, who could collect stickers at various conventions (themed after different planets such as Hoth, Arrakis and Gallifrey) for their booklets. We currently have a limited number of unused passport booklets and corresponding stickers at the Information Desk in the Hilton, just across from the escalator landing on the second floor (above the hotel lobby). Stop by the Info Desk and get one of these fine souvenirs before we run out! Also, anyone with an unfilled passport can get stickers at the Hilton information desk. Supplies are limited, get while you can.

Attention Voyager Pre-Supporters!

If you are a Voyager pre-supporter of LAcon V (having done so during the LA in 2026 bid) and you only received a ribbon… you are missing out on much more!  Please return to Convention Registration to pick up your additional swag, with our grateful thanks for your many years of support.  We apologize for the inconvenience.

Volunteer To Help Worldcon

The end days of Worldcons need more volunteers to help finish everything and pack it away. Please help! Visit the volunteer desk on the second floor of the Hilton to volunteer to help the convention. Even a couple of hours can make a big difference.

Writers & Artists Needed

The Fuzzy Pink Papers depends on con-goers like you for its contents. Have something to say? We’re here to help you spread the word. We are looking for reports on what you saw at the con, restaurant reviews, recommendations about things to see at the convention and throughout LA, your art, photos, anything that might interest or inform L.A.conners. Many of you are writers. Here’s a chance to show you have the Write Stuff (or the Art Stuff) and give yourself a bit of name recognition. Email newsletter@lacon.org or drop off written content in the Fuzzy Pink Papers box outside Hilton Mezzanine 12 or the con suite or the green room.
