If you’re bringing the whole family, we have plenty of programming for your kids and teenagers at LAcon V!
Children’s Program
Welcome to Camp Fuzzy at LAcon V! Located in the Anaheim Hilton, this year we are including a specific track of programming put together by an elementary school educator and designed with children in mind. In the room there will be activity areas for art, science, creativity and play. Children are encouraged to join in by coming dressed as a favorite book, film or television character. We will also be taking “field trips” to other areas of the convention for activities.
We will be open all five days of the convention, ending at 6pm (although we may potentially schedule a pajama party movie night).
Potty trained and badged children ages 3 to 12 can participate throughout the weekend in a wide range of entertainments in their own spaces.
Parents/Guardians are required to remain with their child(ren) in the room.
Teen Program
Dune. Project Hail Mary. Avatar. These recent epic blockbusters aren’t just great because they involve space travel or blue aliens; they’re great because they are great science fiction.
But what about 10, 20, 30 years from now? Who’s going to create the next Arrakis or invent the next Hephaestus?
It’s us. Teenagers. One day, the people in our generation—the ones currently sitting in classrooms, gaming in their rooms, or reading this exact post—will be the Arthur C. Clarkes, Frank Herberts, and Isaac Asimovs of our time.
And I hope I am one of them. My name is Sean, and I am a 16-year-old, the lead organizer for the Worldcon Teen Programming. We believe that, since teenagers will soon be the ones who define the speculative genres, we should provide a dedicated space for teens to explore the genres in the most inspiring ways possible.
From various writing workshops where teenagers can learn from renowned authors covering various literary styles (mystery, gothic, romantic…) to games and flash debates on the ethics and philosophy of science, we have something for every kind of teen creator and fan!
If any teenagers want to be on these program items, please let us know! You can reach me through program@lacon.org.
