Adamson House and Malibu Lagoon Museum

1930 Spanish-Colonial Revival-style house. Chumash Indian artifacts and history of Malibu from 1542 to the present.  The Adamson House gardens and grounds are open daily from 8:00 a.m. to sunset.

  • Adamson House Tour: The historic Adamson House docent-led public tours are on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 11 a.m.–2 p.m., with the last tour starting at 2 p.m. Entrance to the house is only available with a guided tour.  There are no self-guided tours inside the home.
  • Adamson House Garden Tour: Guided Garden Tours are at 10:00 am every Friday, and include an Adamson House tour. Guided tours are first-come-first-served, with no set tour times, and run approximately every 45 minutes. Reservations are required for groups of 7 or more, and must be made 30 days in advance.  Admission: Adults: $7, 6–17 years: $2, 5-years and under: free. (cash only for all tour fees)
  • Malibu Lagoon Museum: The Malibu Lagoon Museum is open to visitors Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m.–3 p.m. Admission is free. (as of September 2025)

Albinger Archaeological Museum

This site was once the home to five different cultures spanning 3,500 years of history. Learn about the Chumash Indians, Chinese immigrants and others who resided on the site, as well as the archaeological digs uncovered in 1974.

Anaheim Heritage Center Archives & Reading Room

The collection focuses on the history of Anaheim and its environs, beginning with the American Indians and the early explorers, including Spanish and Mexican land grants, and extends to Disneyland, the Anaheim Angels, Edison Field and the Convention Center, as well as present and proposed land developments. It also contains material on San Francisco in the 1850’s and Los Angeles County prior to 1889 when Anaheim was a part of that county.

Antique Gas and Steam Engine Museum

“The museum’s collections focus on the period from 1849-1950 and extensively covers agriculture, construction and early industrial trades. Exhibits include blacksmith & wheelwright shops, country kitchen & parlor, steam & gas industrial power units, gristmill & sawmill and farm equipment from horse drawn through modern row crop equipment.”

All of their docents and demonstrators are volunteers. During non-event days their exhibits are mostly static and certain buildings may not be open due to volunteer availability. If you are interested in a specific exhibit, please check the exhibit page for more detailed operating hours. Their FAQ states they have demonstrators on Saturday, and Weavers & Spinners on Thursday.

The museum holds classes in clock & watch repair and history. The museum also hosts classes in Blacksmithing, Glass Arts, Pottery and Broom Making with the 55 Acre Project.

ASU Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising Museum

Hour-long tours are available for ASU FIDM Museum exhibitions as well as “behind the scenes” of Museum storage. Tours must be booked with at least two weeks’ notice and are conducted Monday–Saturday by appointment only. The fee for tours is $20 per person with a minimum charge of $200.

Garden Grove Historical Society

Has the press that Stan Woolston used to publish the 1950 Fan Directory. Several of the city’s oldest homes and commercial buildings dating from the late 1800s to early 1900s have been relocated here.  “The Stanley Ranch Museum is a two-acre property containing the Ware-Stanley House, the Walt Disney Studio Garage, the Garden Grove Post Office, a replica of the original Garden Grove Fire Station and various other buildings.”

  • Ahmanson Hall of the Sky – “reveals how the Sun and Moon interact with Earth to shape the way our planet works. Solar Telescope Instruments (Coelostat) on clear days, each of three telescopes provides a different real-time view of our sun, including sunspots, solar flares, and spectra.”
    Lots of exhibits, including a Tesla Coil, and a 2.46-gigapixel astronomical image made from telescope data processed and custom-made for Griffith Observatory.

Accessibility: Heritage Square Museum welcomes visitors who use mobility aids such as wheelchairs.  However, travel over long stretches of gravel is necessary to access all the structures on the property. In addition, only three buildings (Perry House, Palms Depot, and Colonial Drugstore) have ramps; all other structures on the tour have stairs. The elegant dining room is set for dinner and the Innkeepers’ rooms upstairs are fitted out just as they would have been in 1876.”  There is a replica one room schoolhouse, a carriage house and blacksmith shop, a Chumash village, Spanish adobe, and Newbury pioneer house. Exhibits include an extensive collection of replicated and archaeological artifacts of the Chumash – tools, intricate baskets, games, and everyday use items, as well as fossils unearthed in the Conejo Valley. Also the Kilbourne Collection of “Gramophones, Graphophones, Phonographs, Grafonolas, Victrolas, Amberolas, and various other items related to the beginnings of recorded music”.

Outdoor transportation museum with focus on Western U.S. rail history. Locomotives from 1860’s – 1950’s, passenger cars, freight cars and cabooses, as well as trolleys and motorcars.

Admission is free. Parking is available on the grounds. One can ride the scale train which circles the perimeter of the museum for a nominal charge. The Train Ride phone number is (323) 662-9678.

UCLA Hammer Museum

From the outside it looks like an office building, but inside the permanent collection includes works by Rembrandt, Rubens, van Gogh, Cassatt, Monet and da Vinci. Also, the museum houses the largest collection in the U.S. of Honore Daumier. There are lectures and films at the museum.
