Announcing Our New Guest
LAcon V is thrilled to announce a new Special Guest for our upcoming Worldcon: Terese Mason Pierre. An award-winning Canadian writer and editor, her work has appeared in Uncanny, Fantasy Magazine, Star*Line, Best Canadian Fantasy and Science Fiction, and elsewhere online and in print.
Nominated for Best of the Net, the Aurora Award, and the Ignyte Award, her second chapbook, Manifest, won a third-place Elgin Award and was shortlisted for the bpNichol Chapbook Award, for chapbooks published in Canada. In 2023, she was named a Writer’s Trust Rising Star, and she is a winner of Writer’s Trust Journey Prize, Canada’s most prestigious award for short fiction. She has completed residencies at Island Scribe and the Banff Centre.
Myth is Terese’s debut poetry collection, from House of Anansi Press, which explores family, island landscapes, love, and memory. She is also the editor of As The Earth Dreams, an anthology of Black Canadian speculative short fiction.
We are proud to welcome her as a Special Guest at LAcon V.

Ronald D. Moore has a New TV Series “Star City” premiering early in 2026. The spin-off of his hit Apple+ show, “For All Mankind”, features the Russian cosmonaut’s perspective on the space race. Hear all about it from him at LAcon V!
Dr. Anita Sengupta recently took part in the LA Times Inspirational Women Forum and Leadership Awards, where she moderated the Women Redefining Tech & Space panel.
Special Hugo Award: Best Poem
LAcon V is happy to announce a special award for 2026: Best Poem will be our optional additional category for the 2026 Hugo Awards.
The rules for the category are the same as were used at Seattle Worldcon 2025: “Best Poem: A science fiction or fantasy poem of any line length or word count”.
The vote to ratify the Best Poem category, thereby making it a permanent one, will be held at LAcon V.
LAcon V Hugo Base Design Contest
LAcon V is asking for your input in designing the base for our Hugo Award. It is our responsibility to not only administer and award the Hugo Awards for Excellence in Science Fiction and Fantasy but also the privilege of creating a unique trophy for the award. The Hugo Award prominently features a chrome plated rocket, but the award has become unique in that most of the bases since L.A.con II (1984) have been original designs that highlight and celebrate each individual Worldcon.
To continue this tradition, we are soliciting submissions for a base design for the Hugo Awards to celebrate our theme of adventure and highlight what makes LAcon V and Southern California special as both a Worldcon and location. Several artists have indicated an interest in providing a design, but we welcome any of you who are artistically inclined to submit a plan for a possible base for this award.
If you are interested in submitting a design, please email a statement of interest, with your name and contact information to hugobase@LAcon.org.
Submission Deadline is December 31, 2025

Call for Crafters, Makers, and Artists
In the October newsletter we put out the call for crafters, makers, and artists who want to participate in panels. This month we’re letting you know that in addition to those Art and Maker panels, LAcon V plans to have a large Makers Space! In this space we would love to have makers come and demo your skills and processes, showing people what you’re doing and maybe even letting them try it out. Makers, artists, crafters – this space is for you! Less formal than a full workshop, but still an opportunity to show everyone what you love creating and how they can learn to do it too.
Examples of what we’re looking for include (but are not limited to) 3D printing, jewelry making, paper crafts, fiber crafts, painting, and calligraphy. Our goal is to always have things happening so con attendees can just walk in and see what’s happening. What’s your craft? Show us how it’s done!
If you are interested in participating, please contact us by emailing artmakers@lacon.org We can’t wait to see what you are creating!
Main Program Participant Survey is Live!
For all of you who are interested in being a program participant, the time is now! The Main Program Participant Survey is now live! Anyone who wishes to be on the program must complete this survey by March 31, 2026. If you completed the Initial Interest Form already, you should have received an email with instructions for completing the Main Survey. If you did not receive this email, or have any questions about the survey, please reach out to us at program@lacon.org.
Events
We are pleased to inform you about an exciting new event at LAcon V. A virtual walkthrough of the Large Hadron Collider at CERN with live Q&A is planned for Friday morning of the convention, which is open to all our attendees, including our virtual attendees.
Facilities
LAcon V Hotel Update
We are excited to host LAcon V at the Hilton Anaheim and the Anaheim Marriott. The newly renovated Hilton Anaheim will be one of the main hubs of the convention offering sleeping, parties and programming rooms.
The Anaheim Marriott is a short distance across a pedestrian pavilion to the doors of the Hilton. Both are great options to be right in the middle of everything LAcon V has to offer.
Housing is set to open mid-January 2026. More information on exact dates will come as we get closer.
If you have accessibility needs, please reach out to our Accessibility team and we will make every attempt to accommodate your needs.
In the meantime, please see the individual Hilton and Marriott pages for more information on housing costs and options.
Getting Here: Visa Information
LAcon V is dedicated to supporting the widest possible range of participants. Citizens from over 40 countries do not require a visa to travel to Los Angeles, including Canada, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and most of Europe; instead, a visa waiver is provided through an application for the Electronic System for Travel Authorization program. More information may be found at the USA.gov Visa Waiver Program and ESTA application.
If you are a citizen of a country that does not participate in the waiver program, you will need to begin the process of applying for a nonimmigrant visa. We urge you to begin this process as early as possible, as it may take several months depending on wait times in your country. Please note that the DS-160 form is generally the only form you need to complete prior to your interview. Very rarely will you need to bring any supporting documents. If you have any specific questions, we welcome your inquiry at Visas@lacon.org.
Accessibility
Are you interested in information regarding the support and assistance we are offering to our members with disabilities? Please email accessibility@lacon.org. We are here to answer your questions.
Art Show
The Art Show is calling on artists to enter their work. Intending to open for submissions in January 2026, the Art Show Interest form is now available for your use. Please fill it out and we will ensure you will obtain all the information you need to be part of the show.
Dealers Room
Our Dealer’s Room will open for booking soon. If you would like to reserve any tables, please fill out the Dealers Room Interest form so we can acquire your needs and respond to you directly so that you get exactly what you want to help you display your goods for the most impact. This will give our attendees the abilities to peruse your wares and make purchases to bring home. We want to give both you and them the best experience possible, so please provide the information that will enable us to do so.
WOW! There was a lot to share this month and this is just the beginning of our journey! Always remember… Adventure Awaits!
